FAQ
- What does Win% mean?
- Win% is the model's projected chance that the listed favorite wins the game. The second line shows the away and home split.
- How does MechaPip pick a favorite?
- MechaPip scores every team with calibrated Elo ratings built from season history, then enriches each matchup with player form, team advanced stats, injuries, and starter data. The higher projected side is the forecast.
- What is the rating edge?
- Each forecast row prints a rating pair — AWAY and HOME — and the pair is the effective ratings the projection actually used: each side's Elo with the home edge and the matchup layers (player form, team advanced stats, starters, altitude, any live injury adjustment) already inside the two numbers, before the final probability step and fixed for that row. The rating edge is the favorite's margin between those two printed integers — favorite minus opponent, the exact subtraction a reader can redo from the row — signed and never clamped. The Win% re-derives from the same pair in two printed steps: first the standard 400-scale Elo conversion of the printed gap from the home side, P_raw = 1 / (1 + 10^(-(HOME - AWAY) / 400)); then the sport's fitted last step, P_cal = sigmoid(c + a*ln(P_raw) - b*ln(1 - P_raw)) — with the serving numbers' a, b, and c stamped beside the board on every post. The printed Win% is P_cal when the favorite is the home team, and its complement (1 - P_cal) when the favorite is the away team — the model reads the home side and complements for an away favorite. The site's ratings table shows raw Elo; the pair beside a forecast is effective — same scale, different point in the pipeline. Contract dated 2026-10-14.
- What do the confidence tiers mean?
- 70%+ = High-confidence forecast. 60-69% = Moderate-confidence forecast. 50-59% = Slight favorite.
- What do top-player lines show?
- Season stat leaders for each side. Totals vary by sport (points, yards, goals, or batting line).
- What is MechaPicks?
- MechaPicks is the day's multi-game model prediction: one leg per league, each the model's pick in that league's closest game. The legs sit in the MechaPicks list at the top of this post - the card's original blue list - with both teams' logos beside their names. One line above the list gives the joint model probability: the product of the legs' printed Win% across the games it names. The MechaPip mark in the MechaPicks column shows the same leg rows on the board. A day with no multi-game model prediction posts no MechaPicks. Model forecast only.
- What injury statuses are shown?
- Out listings for teams on today's board. Public ESPN injury listings, refreshed throughout the day.
- How does MechaPip use injuries?
- Out and Doubtful listings can adjust team Elo ratings before a forecast. The blog table shows Out players only.
- Where do projected scores come from?
- The score model projects the final scoreline for a game on the board, and the Projected column carries that scoreline and the pick it implies. The column appears on every board; a game with no projection shows a dash.
- What does Agree mean?
- Agree counts how many models on the board pick the same team - Elo and the score model where it is live - a count of picks, never a confidence claim.
